Here is a blend of impressions and images from the Saturday 8 of October in the organic shop Le Temps des Cerises…
This shop is a cooperative. That is a very interesting fact. Here is the little story – in the eighties some families from the neighbourhood got together to create a purchasing group that quickly became a grocery shop for the locals. And so the idea of a cooperative was born. All was managed by 2 locals. One of them, Micheline Halleux, had become the leader for whole 30 years. In 1987, the real shop opens its doors, with 50 cooperators fully taking part in its management. Three years later, the shop moves…and who could guess this warmful space was initialy an old garage?! From that time, the spirit of the shop was born : a grocery shop where you can find everything, fresh products, well selected goods, precise advices service and on the top of that a warmfull welcome! (And we have the feeling and the more it was a pleasure to make this little event happen there.) Since then, the goals of the shop are :
*Providing a healthy organic quality food, at a fair price, while creating a good quality employment
*Democratic general gathering
*Daily participating management with all of the cooperative’s workers
We like this concept. It gives one chance to feel part of what is happening. It is quite independent too. May there would be more places like this in the city centers!
Mini market with a showcase of making a spoon step by step from branches of hazel i had from fencing.
It was an opportunity to speak with the people coming and i had some moments when i could immerse myself into carving too which always makes the day well balanced. We went home with nice feelings thanks to all the people who were interested and some that supported us by buying one or more wooden things or purchasing what they would like to have from me.
There will be another chance to meet if you will like to. Le Temps des Cerises is organising a christmas market where we would love to be. Once we know i put the date here..
